Crazy Laughter || Friday Favorites
I have a habit of getting to know someone *really* well ..... right before I move away. Always. It never fails. Maybe it's because I spend all day with someone packing boxes. Maybe it's the fact that I realize that it's the last day I get to see this person without 900 miles between us. Either way, it happens, and Kimberly is one of these friends.
While packing up my CD's (yes internet, I still play CD's) we realized that we had the exact same taste in music and decided that one day we *will* go to CMA Fest together. We recited quotes from lots of favorite movies. When I got to TX I found out that she wrote little notes on some of the box lids to make me laugh while I unpacked. But most of all we laughed together. A lot. I absolutely love laughing my head off, and it's nearly impossible to *not* laugh like crazy when I'm around her. Moving away really shouldn't be THAT much fun. But she made it fun.
After all the boxes were on the truck we decided to take a quick photo before it got too dark. Just a side note - never tell Kimberly that she can't do something.... I tried, and this photo definitely proved me wrong that day.
I hope you get to laugh like crazy today! Happy Friday!

Fit for Photography Part 1 || The Goal
"I wish I was a wedding photographer! It's like the easiest job ever - you just snap photos all day, right?"
I'm always amused when someone tells me that my job is "easy"...HA! I LOVE my job and wouldn't trade it out for *anything* else in the world. I LOVE the people I meet. I LOVE the love stories I hear. I LOVE being able to take part in telling the story of a wedding day. But what I don't particularly love is the way I felt after shooting my very first 10 hour wedding. The next morning I. Couldn't. Move.
Photographing weddings has to be one of the most physical things I've ever done in my life. Ever. I've been a nationally ranked tennis player, danced for about 6 years, lived and worked on a farm with horses, ducks, dogs, chickens, and a cat, but Wedding Photography definitely takes the top spot!
One of my goals for 2014 is to become physically fit for photography - I want to be able to roll out of bed the day after a wedding and feel like I could go shoot another one immediately. That's a huge "want", but worth a try I think! I have several different things that I'm working on to help with my goal and I'll be sharing everything with you over the next few weeks.
For starters, I knew that I needed to strengthen my back and core. I don't know about you, but my back doesn't think that carrying up to 50 pounds of photography gear is very easy. The solution - Ballet. Now, I'm not talking about just walking around gracefully on a stage in a pink tutu. I'm talking about real ballet. The kind you don't see at a recital. The every day workout that makes you sweat like crazy and feel like your legs will fall off if you do one more jump. The kind of ballet that we are taught to "make look easy". It's not easy folks, but it's a lot of fun! If you don't believe me, just try this ballet workout - it's one of my all time favorites!
(I absolutely loved ballet when I was younger... I've been everything from Little Bo Peep (top right photo) to an Oyster in an underwater themed production.)
I ran across some things from when I was in the Nutcracker ballet in 2001 with the Fort Worth Dallas Ballet Company at the Majestic Theatre. My sweet parents had to sit through 3 performances that weekend and watch me battle mice (I was a soldier and my little sister was an angel...seriously, she auditioned and got the part of an angel). I can still remember the first part of the dance and some hilarious accidents that happened during rehearsal (like a poor little soldier girl tripping over the King Mouse tail - she was fine and laughed through it all). So much fun!!
This Fall I started taking ballet again to help strengthen my back and it's REALLY working! I find that I don't have to go to the chiropractor as often and every now and then I find myself standing up straight! :)
The best part of dancing again is being able to participate in the recitals. There's something about applying a pound of makeup, getting dressed up, and being on stage (with blinding lights) in front of an audience that makes all the hard work worth it. At the very end of my recital this year *all* of the dance classes got together on stage and danced to "The Fox (What Does The Fox Say?)" by Ylvis. Yes. I now know what the fox says. If any of my 2014 brides want to play The Fox at their wedding I will be the first to hit the dance floor and show you how it's done. :)
Happy Wednesday!!

Remembering..... The Ducklings
We had been trying forever and ever, waiting for weeks and weeks, but still nothing happened.
This part is going to sound *crazy* crazy.... it even sounds crazy to me! I had been wanting to hatch some baby ducklings for over a month, and it took over my mind *soo* much that I had a dream one night about finding 3 new ducklings in the coop. The morning after my dream I sprinted outside and found........ 1.......2.......no wait, 3 little guys!! Needless to say, I was pretty darn astonished and excited! :)
The ducklings found an amazing new home when I moved back to TX, but I still miss their adorably funny attitudes. Trust me, if you want a good laugh, all you have to do is watch some ducks for about a half hour - something hilarious is bound to happen! Here are a couple of their "baby photos" that I found this morning....
This was the very first video I took with my new camera, and the quality isn't the best (who knew you had to manually adjust the focus?? obviously not moi. ;-)), but I couldn't resist sharing the cuteness.
Happy Monday!

The Adams Family || Christmas 2013
"Ohhhhhh. Y'all are the ADDAMS FAMILY huh???" **snaps fingers**
**laughing** "Yeahhhh, we get that a lot."
I guess it comes with the name, but *everyone* decides to make a little fun out of us being "The Adams Family".
Here are a few facts to set the record straight:
However, after sharing these photos, I'm sure that the last point will be put into question...
I can always count on someone in the family to make at least one funny face during a session... it always happens, and it always makes the best photo.
.......ANNNNND it really makes me laugh.
Here's one of my fabulous opera-singing-photography-loving-violin-piano-and-harp-playing sister. She was traveling around the country last year with her opera and has even more plans this year. I'll be sure to share her new recordings as soon as they are ready.... shhhh... just don't tell her when I post them. ;-)
We have a couple family Christmas traditions in this crazy Adams family - one of which is a photo that we take of my dad and his two sisters on either side of him. (we have so many photos of them with different faces!) My aunts weren't around during this shoot, so Lizzy and I decided to cary on the tradition with our grandmother. I'd say it was a success.
And here is my personal favorite tradition. I wasn't able to hear it the past 3 years since I was in Tennessee, so this year I decided to record it. It's not Christmas unless we get to hear Mamie say........
What did you do for Christmas and New Years?!? Do you have any family traditions?
Happy Saturday!

**laughing** "Yeahhhh, we get that a lot."
I guess it comes with the name, but *everyone* decides to make a little fun out of us being "The Adams Family".
Here are a few facts to set the record straight:
- We only have one "D" in our name.
- Yes, I've seen lots of episodes from the show.... I *do* know what you're talking about.
- No, we do not have a cousin It.
- We aren't *as* crazy as the Addams family.
However, after sharing these photos, I'm sure that the last point will be put into question...
